What are the types of Experience?

Forlizzi and Battarbee (2004) argue that there are three basic types of experience:

First is experience; the means by which we continually evaluate our objectives with respect to human beings, situations, and products that encompass us at any given time. Walking in the park is a good example for a typical experience.

The second type of experience is called an experience, or what Forlizzi and Battarbee (2004) refer to as something that “can be articulated or named; has a beginning and end; inspires behavioral and emotional change”. Example of an experience could be having a meal or watching a movie.

The third type of experience is co-experience; a social context of experience that creates meanings accompanied with feelings. For example, text messaging with a friend or family member is a co-experience (Forlizzi and Battarbee 2004).

Along the same line, Hassenzahl (2010) also holds that experience is subjective, holistic, situated, dynamic, and worthwhile.

Since humans are governed by emotion, what the learner feels and perceives has a huge impact on how and what one experiences. Therefore, a good design has to be human-centered and connect with the learner on a personal level.
